Constructive Criticisms

Maayong aga sa inyo nga tanan! Greetings from Iloilo... the home of my favorite La Paz Batchoy, Pancit Molo, linagpang nga bangrus ginlaktan pa gid sang ginamos kag katumbal, klase-klasi gid nga uga, kag damo pa gid nga uban. Char!

I don't think I would ever have a full time reviewing all the comments in this blog especially that of the shoutbox (syagit!), so I will just post a friendly reminder to all my loving and concerned kababayans, esp Mainitnons, to please use the "syagit" responsibly and constructively.

I hope you know how.

There are many ways actually. And from the few I know and I practice, here's some tips which could maintain a peaceful and positive atmosphere, here in our respected Pidjanga Blog, and hopefully within our beloved Mainit.

DO NOT CRITICIZE IF YOU CAN'T OFFER A COUNTER-SOLUTION. Well, it's difficult. But sometimes, try putting yourselves on the shoes of the person being criticized. If it was you, how would you approach the problem? By identifying a problem and offering a solution, we answer the issues more quickly.

DO NOT CRITICIZE IF THERE'S NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. This is most true if criticism is about personal appearances. For example: "Uno man sab kaw kaitom nimo, aja hinuon kahadlok an mga kabataan kun makakakita dimo". But if you focus on key aspects that are changeable, like behavior, the person can still do something about it. Example: "Amo dili kaw kakita nan tarbaho kay bayong man kaw kada adlaw".

LOOK AT YOURSELF FIRST BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE A PERSON. Aya kaw mahibayo na mas tabangunon pa kaw kaysa imo tag-atake. Look at your motives too. Is it really to help? Or you just want to attack someone? I hope your criticisms here in Pidjanga Blog are about wanting to help.

Well, that's for now folks.

I am very well pleased about the reception of fellow Mainitnons of the Pidjanga Blog especially the Shoutbox Syagit! I really feel privileged being able to provide a connection between the "community" and our Local Officials, between those abroad and those still "at home", and etc.

Let us remain responsible and constructive. Kaya natin yan! Amen!

The Sanggunian Bayan 2007-2009 Report

Thanks to VM Mano Banoy for positively responding to the PIDJANGA monitoring of LGU accomplishments. After reading my posts on the non-accomplishments of ALL the konsehales (SB Members), he informed me of the lengthy Executive-Legislative Agenda (or ELA) which is constantly monitored through an annual accomplishment report. Here's a glimpse of ELA Accomplishment Reports for 2007-2009 - the number of resolutions authored and approved per SB member:

1. AL RODIN CRISOLOGO BEHAGAN
2007 - 2, 2008 - 4, 2009 - 0
Total - 6

2. ROXIE SY SALINO
2007 - 2, 2008 - 8, 2009 - 3
Total - 13

3. CAYETANO LAREZA RECABO
2007 - 11, 2008 - 21, 2009 - 11
Total - 43

4. RONNIE NAVIDAS MOSENDE
2007 - 6, 2008 - 2, 2009 - 1
Total - 9

5. NELSON RECABO REYES
2007 - 20, 2008 - 46, 2009 - 21
Total - 87

6. ELADIO BADILLA ENDICO JR.
2007 - 2, 2008 - 2, 2009 - 1
Total - 5

7. FELY MANTEZA ODTOJAN
2007 - 3, 2008 - 6, 2009 - 1
Total - 10

8. ARTURO MOSENDE MOSOTE
2007 - 4, 2008 - 7, 2009 - 1
Total - 12

Wow, this is quite revealing! Imagine... THREE YEARS worth of legislative work!!!

If numbers is our ONLY indicator of performance, then this could be our interpretation:
Top performing councilors: Mano Nelson and Tano
Least performing councilors (less than 10 resolutions): Nonong, Ronnie, Jun (Endico)

Well, we still have to see the "quality" of these resolutions (hope to find time analyzing them) and determine whether these are also functions of "committee" meetings.

What can you say? Labjog!

(Again, thanks Mano Banoy for sharing the reports. Looking forward to receive too the 2009 SOMA of Mayor Ramon)

Padayon Tambayayong Mainit

My personal congratulations to the sustained public service and community development efforts of Tambayayong Mainit, Inc led by Mana Magnette Labrador. The organization, SEC registered in November 2008, envisions to afford opportunities to uplift the educational, health and nutritional, social and cultural circumstances of the underserved and challenged children, youth, women, senior citizens and special focus groups of Mainit and protection and care of the environment.

Let us preserve our "endangered" fruits in Mainit

I am sure that the old ones and not-so-old ones will still remember the following fruits we enjoyed in the olden days:
1. Pudjusan (pojosan)
2. Mangya
3. Lambunao (wild Lansones kuno ini)
4. Poyangi
5. Tisa
6. Bayono
8. Pagusi (Nymphea sp.)
9. Kandiis
10. Lomboy (Duhat)
11. Hagashas
12. Mabolo (Diospyros blancoi) aka Velvet Apple and Magcono Tree
13. Mansanitas
14. Hantutuknaw
15. Santa Maria
...etcetera

Mano Banoy suggested that we feature them here and identify how the Pidjanga community could help preserve or propagate these species for our children and grandchildren.

So far, I have featured at least 3, although usually by accident. These are the Kayape, Pagusi, and Mabolo.

What if we ran "Take Photos and get a Lake Mainit Shirt" contest? Whoever is able to take photos of at least 5 of the above will receive a Lake Mainit Shirt (check here). Photos will be featured in the Pidjanga blog and other Surigaonon websites (di ba Monyx?).

Let's see if I can find willing sponsors. What do you think?

PS: Honestly, I have never seen a Mangya, Poyangi, nor a Hagashas in my life.

Title: American Tunnels Slideshow

It is with a renewed sense of optimism that we head into September with drilling on the American Tunnels gold and copper-gold prospect (Agata Project) started mid-August and drilling on the El Paso copper-gold project on-track to commence this month, funded by joint venture partner Gold Fields. We also are awaiting results from Avocet Mining from the remaining holes drilled at Mindoro's Kay Tanda gold resource earlier this summer.

We have a short photo slideshow of the drill rig mobilization and related activities at American Tunnels available on our website at www.mindoro.com (under Projects / Agata / Photos). A link is also provided here (click on link or cut and paste address into your browser):

Thank you for your time and continued support. I encourage you to contact me, or one of our investor relations representatives at the numbers provided below, for a further discussion of Mindoro's programs and prospects.

250 days before elections

Even here in the Pidjanga Cbox... we can already feel that the Election Fever is on!

At 250 days before the National Elections aka the greatest fiesta in the Philippines, we have no doubt that the current officials who are still qualified to run for elections are now busy in their campaign and strategic planning. The election and campaign process is actually becoming a science with technology and systems being set strategically by each party group or individual candidates. In fact, I've read somewhere that there is already a campaign software for sale, armed with GIS-based data.

With these... can we still expect "performance" from our officials? I hope so!

But, actually, I doubt it. Niagi na sab an pila ka tuig sanan mga buyan, mahuman na an iska termino... waya'y pay ato himbaw-an na maradjaw na agi! Basin isab sobra ra kun dili nato malaong na an swimming pool, an resort, an legislative building, sanan an iban infrastructure projects dili kun maradjaw na agi.

* Percent of young Mainitnons who have accessed a Day Care Center;
* Percent of households who have access to SAFE drinking water (jaon wayay coliform);
* Percent of households with sanitary toilets;
* Proportion of barangay health workers per 1,000 Mainitnons;
* Percent of Mainitnon mothers and wives who have access to safe maternal care;
* Percent decrease in major KILLER diseases including tuberculosis and schistosomiasis which arevery PREVALENT in Mainit;
*Percent of streets and public places with adequate lighting;
* Percent decrease in occurence of domestic violence (pangulata, pang abuso sa mga asawa o mga anak, etc);
* Percent of Mainitnon women and youth exposed to training programs;
* Percent of young Mainitnons accessing and completing elementary and high school education;
* Percent of Mainitnons in need who were given training on livelihood programs;
AND SEVERAL OTHER INDICATORS... nah, mapuno inin ato blog.

Actually, biskan dili rakan kun "percentage" but a score of 0 and 1. Nan dispues, ato sumahon... puydi na nato gradohan inin ato opisyales. Sa nabilin na 250 days... inday kun mu-improve pa an ila grado.

Hala... ibaid na iton ijo mga uyo pag-huna-huna kun sin-o an ijo iboto. Jari an ijo tamag-BOTO nan 2007 (click here). Jari isab an ATO HINHIBAW-AN na ila agi gikan 2007 hangtud 2009 (click here).

Angay kaha i-kalipay sanan taga-an nan award? O angay ika-sipog? Matud pa, KAYO ang HUMUSGA!
