I took another look at our Bitan-ag tree planting photos and this one gives me some worries.
(Click photo to enlarge)
There are 11 persons in the photo. Thousands more are not there but maybe aware of the events but are not concerned.
Obviously, the photo highlights the tree planting event. I join Ate Joy and our family (Kuya Mosad and Filo) who traveled far from North Africa (Egypt) to help us reforest our lakeshores. Mana Aida Paz was with us too. A worthy endeavor, showing care and love of the environment.
But barely 5 meters away, another 5 persons are busy working in the background. They are quarrying sand from the lake. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THIS? I had a series of blogposts about this in the Pidjanga Blog in 2007-2008. Those were concerns I raised almost a decade ago. Until now, the quarrying continues.
"NANGINABUHI RA". Amo man. Just like the 11th person in the photo... namaling or namukot kay "nanginabuhi ra". As I have suggested, give Maintinons a chance to have their own livelihood, but allow sand quarrying within the permitted zones.
HELP ME. HELP our TOWN. PRESERVE OUR LAKE.
