Pidjanga

(Glossogobius giuris) is a freshwater fish native to Mainit Lake. It is called “biya” in Tagalog and “white goby or tank goby” in English. The term “pidjanga” is also sometimes fondly used to refer to the Mainitnons, the people of the Municipality of Mainit, a town in Southern Philippines. This blog hopes to capture potentials of Migrants Pidjangas for the Development of our Town by attempting to document development issues, folk stories, and current concerns, about the Pidjanga — both the fish and the people.

Amo Ini an Amo Bayay (This is Our Home)

amo ini an amo bayay

sa amo bayay na gamay
kami natawo
notubo, nolinghud
tagpayangga sa huni
ni nanay, iban nan hanging
hayahay

mga bukid an atup
mga kahoy an haligi
mga suba an bintana
mga yuta sayog
bato na buyawan
mga bahandi ilayum
sa kasing-kasing nagpa-uraray

sa pagsubang nan adlaw
mga langgm nanaghoy
binisbisan na buyak nanadjaw
mga tikling nanlukso
mga lumad nanlugsong

palandungi
mga tubig nagdagayday
sa gagmay na sapa
sa danaw pasingod
na tuburan nan ato kinabuhi

amo bayay
wayay makapukan
bisan bagjo, linog,
baha, dili mapildi
bayay na gamay
dili mapalid kay taghimo sa gugma

bisan gamay ra
dako an pultahan
dajon kamo tanan, way pili
amo ini, dili makawat
dili malimtan, dili talikdan
dinhi kami mobalik
sanan panalipdan

amo ini, bisan sin-o
an pangutan-on
amo ini an amo bayay

Do you have a sound file for the above poem? It would be great to hear how the words are actually pronounced.

Thanks for the interest.

For the moment, we have none. But that will be a future project, though not soon.

Keep on visiting us and we appreciate your comments.
