Pidjanga

(Glossogobius giuris) is a freshwater fish native to Mainit Lake. It is called “biya” in Tagalog and “white goby or tank goby” in English. The term “pidjanga” is also sometimes fondly used to refer to the Mainitnons, the people of the Municipality of Mainit, a town in Southern Philippines. This blog hopes to capture potentials of Migrants Pidjangas for the Development of our Town by attempting to document development issues, folk stories, and current concerns, about the Pidjanga — both the fish and the people.

Iya Daria: Agi anay!

Iyo Berio: Aw, oo gud si-i! Hala, taga-i kita nan iton imo tuba, ma-iska baso! Kapaso anhi kuman isuba sa ilaja hu?

Iya Daria: Amo! Halajo pa man gud an tag-uyan.

Iyo Berio: Hamok na imo halin?

Iya Daria: Aya! Amo pay pag-butang ko nan iska bol. Sajo pa man sab! Kasajo matuod nimo anhi?

Iyo Berio: Magpakopras man gud ako. Nakay hamok kawat kuman, ako bantajan. Magkuha isab ako nan dugang mandayagay kay dakan madali. Tiguyang na man gud si Maning. Mahinay na mudayag.

Iya Daria: Arang-arang man kaw kay jaoy may koprasunon. Kami anhi, tuba ra intawon.

Iyo Berio: Saba! Iton may imo bata sa Manila. Sige man kuno sinpadaya dimo.

Iya Daria: Ayna, nangaplay pa man lagi kay natangtang man sa trabaho. Jadto sa ija Auntie.

Iyo Berio: Katam-is nan imo tuba. Iska ipis pa kuno! Isa rakan!

Iya Daria: Jari! Aw, hamok-hamoka kay makapa-brayt iton, laong nila. Hehehe!

Iyo Berio: Nauno badja imo bata?

Iya Daria: Inday lagi nauno adto. Basin jaoy imo kilaya.

Iyo Berio: Na aya isab. Na hala, kay taas na an adlaw. Sunod na isab. Jari badjad!

Iya Daria: Nadj-an rakan an sukli pag-agi mo kay ya pay sinsilyo.

Iyo Berio: Aw, i-agi ko rakan an badjad.

Iya Daria: Sige.

Iyo Berio: (nagpanaw sija rakan isa) Kalami nan tuba!

CBCP News: Mining threatens 4th largest freshwater lake in PH

SEVEN are in the town of Mainit, Surigao del Norte... of the 15 exploration permits (EP) that the Regional Office 13 (CARAGA) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Environment department approved as of June 30, 2010.
