Pidjanga

(Glossogobius giuris) is a freshwater fish native to Mainit Lake. It is called “biya” in Tagalog and “white goby or tank goby” in English. The term “pidjanga” is also sometimes fondly used to refer to the Mainitnons, the people of the Municipality of Mainit, a town in Southern Philippines. This blog hopes to capture potentials of Migrants Pidjangas for the Development of our Town by attempting to document development issues, folk stories, and current concerns, about the Pidjanga — both the fish and the people.

Mainit Community e-Center

SURPRISE! Surprise! SURPRISE!

We have an INTERNET CAFE right in the heart of the LGU!!!

I only planned to take a look at the Mainit Public Library which I never had the chance to personally see since WE successfully initiated it in 2003 (where Mayor Roger Gatpolintan generously provided the current municipal space to accommodate the donated books and other library materials).

I was very surprised that the LGU already has 5 NEW PCs connected to the internet and the public can rent it at only P15 per hour!!! If it has a WiFi router, then we will be like the Municipality of Argao in Cebu... a WiFi municipality.

Medyo natabunan an "Municipal Library" amo na ako taghiwi ko an kuha sa camera... and took the new name of the center... Mainit Community e-Center. (Wow!). Who knows, kada-adlaw na badja an bisita ni Mayor sa ato blog!

And the library is well maintained with proper cards and documentation for the borrowers. Hinglo!!! Properly arranged!

Mas bongga kay, mu-posing man gadjud an ato Library Attendant... the beautiful Ms. Sarah Jean Fabula. I got her cellphone number, in case, we need to coordinate some future plans e.g. more book donations. Our librarian, whom I did not meet, is Ms. Bebe Munoz (Sarah's supervisor).

And hey, I think it was Cain's full box of donation that contained some videos, and the US based Pidjanga donation that contained the Encyclopedia. Guys, your donations and your souvenirs are PROPERLY stacked here and ARE being used by our Mainitnon youths. Mabuhay!

I noticed that the subscription to the Time Magazine, Readers Digest, etc has ended. We might consider reviving the "adoption" of these subscriptions. Another fund drive to do... Whew, I wish I have a secretary to do the follow-up for all of the Pidjanga advocacies.
